Jimmy Buffett fans are eagerly waiting for his 2008 tour dates to be announced. There were some rumors that he will be playing on April 28 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. If this is true, then this will be his second year to play there.

While waiting for his tour dates, you can check out ‘The Bluegrass Tribute to Jimmy Buffett,’ a tribute CD that is already available online. The tribute CD features music from Buffett’s roots, Nashville. Various artists sing and perform his music, adding a bluegrass twist to it with the use of banjo, guitar, mandolin, and dobro. This will be a treat for all Buffett fans.

For a little bit of news, an article about Jimmy Buffett came out just recently on the Palm Beach Post. The article says that some friends of his pilot Randy Leslie are accusing him of not caring about Leslie’s discharge from service after 15 long years. It can be remembered that Leslie came into Margaritaville when the Jamaican police wrongly identified Leslie and his boss to be drug runners. The police even fired upon the Buffett seaplane that Leslie was flying. What happened then became Buffett’s inspiration for ‘Jamaica Mistaica.’

Jimmy Buffett goes Bluegrass

Most of us can’t think of Jimmy Buffett without thinking of flower shirts and grass skirts and shorts. He is a tropical paradise man all the way through. You can keep those Margaritas coming. Recently, it was discovered that some people had done a CD but used bluegrass music in place of his original rhythms. Looking on the Internet, this seems to be a new fad. They take country, rock, or pop artists and play them to Bluegrass. The funny thing is it doesn’t sound half bad.

It gives us his more popular songs with a bluegrass twist. Some of the songs included on the Bluegrass Tribute are done with banjos, a dobro, and a mandolin. There is a second Bluegrass album of Jimmy Buffett’s hit out now as well. It is called “Pickin on Jimmy Buffett.” Some of the songs on this album include “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Come Monday,” “Son of a Son of a Sailor,” and “Havana Daydreamin’.”

Once you go out and find these two collections, you will be trading in your flower shirt for some suspenders and a straw hat. These are really great renditions using your favorite country instruments. So hit your local record store and see if they can be purchased. You won’t be sorry.

He has been around for a long time and perhaps the most famous of his songs, Margaritaville, is still played in bars everywhere. He also has some restaurants by the same name. He says his music is a combination of pop, folk, country, and tropical themes in his lyrics. It is said this is what gives him his own unique sound. He recently teamed up with Alan Jackson to record “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere.” This was well received by all of those who work the nine to five shifts. He has also teamed up with the governor of Florida, Bob Graham, to create the “Save A Manatee” program. He also helped to found “Singing for Change.” This charitable program was to help with environmental issues as well as children and family issues. On New Year’s Eve, he performed in St. Bart’s Baz Bar and played nine songs for the crowd to celebrate. He also performed at the Summerset Winery, with many people in straw hats and skirts and flowered shirts and they all helped raise a ruckus. This was a casual event that also included dinner.
