Jimmy Buffett came up with a new song this last month or two called “A Lot To Drink About.” Where did he come up with such an idea? He picked up the newspaper one day! Or perhaps he picked it up everyday. The problems that the world has are obvious and very tough for everyone to think about. But they also seem rather tailor-made for Buffett’s style of music. Everyone feels the need to chill out from the problems of the world and many people find Jimmy’s music to fit that occasion best. Incidentally, he will be releasing an acoustic album this year, looking at his various songs and thinking about what would sound best in an acoustic setting. Stay tuned for more info.

The Lenox Group Inc is working on selling off their assets to KPS Capital Partners. So what? Lenox Group made some interesting products before they went bankrupt. One of these was a parrot that sings the Jimmy Buffett song “Cheeseburgers in Paradise”. According to the singer, the group hasn’t kept up with copyright laws in terms of this song. They used the song without asking him or paying royalties, they said. Last year, they came to a decision that the birds would not sing his song anymore, and the already-manufactured ones would be destroyed or given to Buffett at the time. Now, in the bankruptcy proceedings and the sale information, we don’t see any information about the final fate of the parrots. Please note: these aren’t real parrots, but rather plastic birds.

Jimmy Buffett performed at Key West last week in a sort of tribute to our country. One of the things that he said was that “we have lots to drink about”, and that’s probably about right at this point in our world. He spent much of the previous week in the recording studio, having written songs that really speak to the feel of the time nowadays. It’s a good time to hear the relaxing words of Jimmy during this time, when people are losing their jobs and homes. Then again, I can’t help but wonder if any of the people who got to go to the show were jobless or homeless. Seems like they need to relax a bit too.

The Beachcomber sounds like the name of some kind of migratory bird. But it is, in fact, a hotel that is being shifted into the newest version of Jimmy Buffett’s world. There is a summary of what it’s like here on the Honolulu Star Bulletin newspaper site. He is impressed with how much it must’ve cost and how nice that is. The hotel has been converted well into a new kind of place and it’s perfect for all the Parrotheads, who are looking for a great chill-out experience without feeling like they’re in a shack or something. This place seems to fill those needs really well!

The Jimmy Buffett tribute band, Low Tides and Highways, is performing at various places. The main place that I’ve been able to find is in Iowa, and maybe it’s just a local band. Jimmy Buffett is such a high-roller that he mainly plays just in bigger cities and venues. In Clinton, Iowa, there is probably little chance of Buffett coming during his upcoming Summerzcool tour and so the tribute band can give you the feel of a Buffett show in your own hometown. Low Tides and Highways seems to be well along the way of getting ready for their shows and if you’re in the area, go check them out. They’re working hard, so you can bet it’s going to be a great show.

Jimmy Buffett has put in an application at GoogleMaps that he hopes will help people to understand the environment better than they did before. The Maps program will allow fans to follow him on his upcoming concert tour. It’s not really clear what he means with his environmental side of his wishes in that. The newest edition of GoogleMaps allows you to explore certain parts of the ocean floor and lets you learn more about it. But I don’t think Jimmy will be touring the Mariana Trench in 2009. At least, it’s not on his schedule yet anyway.

Jimmy Buffett is 62 and is living just fine. This is a good place to take a look at who he is. He is not just a great CEO. Not just a strong businessman. Not just a man cashing in on a great concept. They believe that he might have $40million dollars in assets at this point. Let’s think about his concerts tickets. They are going for something like 100 dollars apiece for the upcoming Summerzcool Tour in some places. And his T-Shirts and frisbees and everything are quite expensive and lucrative for him. But he’s also an amazing musician. His songs have inspired a full generation to hang out and enjoy their world a little bit more. They enjoy relaxing and having fun. This is not slackerism, but it’s a deeper peace that they’re trying to figure out.

Valentine’s Day is coming up and so you get articles like this. It really doesn’t have much to do with Jimmy Buffett, to be honest, but it’s kind of fun to think of it that way. The title is to “Have a Jimmy Buffett Style honeymoon”. Oh yeah? Just relaxing and hanging out on a tropical island? Just resting and having fun. It seems like a tough thing to do, doesn’t it? For most people, it’s practically impossible. But Jimmy has a message for you! Turn off the Blackberry, leave the internet at home. Put down the papers. And just hang out.
