When Jimmy hit the stage with Ilo Ferreia at the Stephen Talkhouse, it was essentially a show like any other. We were able to see this fun performer playing many of his newer songs, but also some of his classic ones that are very fun indeed. Of course, the song Margaritaville was part of it. But also a lot of his newer songs, which have a little edge to them and tell a lot more about politics and the economy of the world. The concert was a benefit for the Wounded Warriors Project and gave us the sense that we are contributing to the rest of the world. Ferreia was discovered by Buffett back in the old days when he saw him while on vacation. These two musicians are still able to play well together and it was a lot of fun to hear them back together again.

We’ve figured out what this whole Dolphins thing is about. While the celebrity appeal of Miami is high in that area, and the whole idea of the warm beach is very fitting with Jimmy, perhaps it’s also a demographic positive. Many of the fans of Buffett’s music are over 50. Many of the people who live in South Florida are over 50. Coincidence? What about these other performers who are involved. The Estevans and Marc Anthony? Perhaps they will wrap up the younger crowd. Then again, do many people really watch a sports team for their minority owners? (that is, those with a somewhat smaller stake in the team) I listen to Buffett and watch the Dolphins regardless. Perhaps these performers will give the team some interesting things outside of the football, including halftime shows and such. We shall see.

One of the last places that you might think of Jimmy Buffett’s style of music and life is in Connecticut. Although the people there can relax just like anyone else, Buffett is the ultimate relaxer and man of chilling out. And they have Margaritaville in Connecticut, surprisingly enough. Anyone can have a lot of fun with this place. It’s a comfortable place where you can relax all you want. There is a little review of it and the great music and nice atmosphere that you will encounter. Not just in the Margaritaville in Connecticut, but also in locations all over the world. This is one of those kinds of places that you can really feel the essence of Jimmy and the connection to your less crazy, nervous self!

Are you a little bit sad today? Is it because you might have missed your chance to hear Jimmy Buffett in concert this summer? Never fear! At this point of the summer, it doesn’t surprise anyone to have that kind of situation, because it is sometimes hard to catch him, if you have a schedule conflict or if he doesn’t happen to come near enough to you. Of course, you should go to any lengths and clear out your schedule whenever that kind of thing happens! But there are also many tribute bands that you can look into and hear that great music live, in a room full of other people who love this music and the atmosphere. Just because Jimmy himself isn’t directly in the room doesn’t mean you aren’t able to hang out or anything! Check out the article about this other tribute band, Pete and the Parrotheads.

Who knew? The Miami Dolphins have become the main piece of news for Jimmy Buffett this whole summer, even though he’s on tour and so on. When you want to go to Miami and see the Dolphins play, you will certainly be giving money indirectly to Jimmy. But also, there are a lot of other Miami-based celebrities, including the Estefans, who are going to be part owners this year. The latest post is that Marc Anthony might be joining in the fun, with a possible deal that would make him a part owner of the team as well. But don’t worry: neither Jimmy nor Marc will be planning who will be playing for the team. That will be up to the usual suspects who have had trouble with the ‘Fins over the last few years. Meanwhile, they will have more resources to do so this year, thank you Jimmy!

Jimmy Buffett’s deal with the Miami Dolphins was a secret for a long time. It was revealed back in May to the surprise of many. But it’s been a fun relationship so far. There is an analysis of what went into the decision today. The Dolphins have been struggling for the last several years and the owner decided that they had to make some changes, not only on the field. With football changing into a more television-based sport with fewer people attending the games in person, the owners of teams will have to come up with other ways to attract people to the stadiums. The owner of the Dolphins said that his town is all about celebrities, lifestyle and those kinds of things. This is to say, Jimmy Buffett gives them exactly this kind of star power and help. It’s ultimately an interesting experiment in making football teams more financially viable, even if they aren’t performing perfectly.

It’s perhaps only new information to me, but I just learned where Jimmy got his inspiration for the album that he plans to release sometime this year. He has always said that it’s Happy Hour somewhere in the world. One time, he decided to test his theory out and went out to Timbuktu and found a place to have happy hour with nomadic musicians there. It sounds like a lot of fun and he has said several times that this was one of his most inspiring musical experiences. It’s going to be a lot of fun to hear this album, because it’s going to have all the songs that are from that experience. While the new album is expected to fit in with his long-held relaxation attitude, it also contains more songs based on current events.

There are some very interesting facts about Jimmy Buffett that many people don’t know. After all, we’ve already discussed how strong a musician he is and how good he is in terms of getting people relaxed at the concert. But I’ll bet he isn’t as relaxed as a pilot. Yes, that is the piece of trivia that I’m bringing up to you today: Jimmy is a pilot who is able to fly single and multi-engine planes, with land and sea ratings. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of or seen him flying and it may be that he only flies on rare occasions. Many people want to hear the music, but the sound of a prop plane might not be as interesting or exciting for them.
About the Concerts

One of the things that we’ve been talking about with regards to the concerts is what is actually part of the concerts. In fact, the concerts this year, called “SummerZCool” is loosely based on a school theme. Some of the songs are based on school subjects. But this is more fun than any other school would be, it seems to me. After all, from Jimmy you don’t actually get any homework. You don’t have to raise your hand to talk. You don’t have to sit in a hard wooden desk. But the music gives you the sense school in some ways. But what about the drinking song, “A Lot to Drink About”? That certainly isn’t a school thing to do. This is what makes it better than school. You can enjoy, relax and drink your Margaritas with no trouble!
