A Jimmy Buffett Fan

Track List

[ Comments Off ] Posted on 10.27.09 under Uncategorized

They just released the track list for the Buffett Hotel CD that I mentioned last time around. It’s going to be a fantastic album, as proven by this list. A lot of these songs are taken from the set list of his latest tour shows and also includes several of his more political songs. It’s going to be very interesting to see how these songs sound when they are recorded. You know, when you hear something live, you can hear it arranged for the particular occasion, depending on who else is playing and the kind of event. But for an album, they can choose a lot more about how they arrange it. It’s great songs as usual, but we’ll have to wait to see what will be different about it.

New Album!

I hadn’t noticed this before for some reason! There is a new album from Jimmy Buffett coming out in December. It’s been a little while since his last album came out, and hopefully we’ll be able to get it right away. In other words, hopefully it will be on sale in many different places rather than just here. The music on this new album, “Buffet Hotel”, is said to be partly derived from West African music that he first encountered in Mali, a country in northwest Africa (hint, it’s next to Algeria). This means there will be some great beats and some other fun sounds for you to hear. I will definitely enjoy this new Buffett album, because his experiments/fusions are always really exciting!

That Stadium Again

Miami Marine Stadium is still being debated by local officials and investors. It would be very nice to see what kinds of decisions people are going to make with this stadium and whether it’s going to be torn down. A lot of people don’t like the stadium, though it hasn’t been made completely clear why. Many people just think it looks bad. The city has been aiming to take it down and put something up in its place, but they haven’t been able to figure out how just yet. Jimmy has weighed in, saying that he wants the place saved. He has a lot of history performing there and it does seem to be a place uniquely suited to his style of music and performance. We’ll see if that ends up happening this time too!

Early Buffett

Since we’re still stuck with no new news, and I didn’t want you all twisting in the wind wondering what was new, I decided that today we could go back and check out the Jimmy Buffett of the past. You probably know that he started out as a country artist in Nashville. He was well-respected, but not really famous. His first albums show a lot of this style of music, complete with acoustic guitar and all. You can recognize a lot of his own personal style in these early recordings too. You can tell that he’s very talented and headed somewhere good. But he hadn’t put the entire style together quite yet at that point. It would take a change of location and exposure to a wider variety of music for him to get his full signature sound that we, of course, know and love now! To check this out, listen to one of his old albums and see what you think and if you like it just as much.

Only One Thing

There is only one really new thing for us to talk about with Jimmy Buffett. It would appear that his tour has slowed down quite a bit and that no one is reviewing it anymore. With a name like SummerzCool, I suppose it wouldn’t be expected for it to keep going very long in the fall and winter. Plus, everyone who’s going to see the concert has already done so or has tickets already. The new thing that happened is that last night featured a Monday Night Football game for his Miami Dolphins at Land Shark Stadium. It was a good game, with the Dolphins winning at the end using several trick plays. There was a story out there that someone was stabbed in the stands, but that’s nothing to do with Jimmy or anyone else really. It was a good game and his team seems to be holding up well with several tough breaks for them this season.

Less News

There isn’t much news in Jimmy Buffett’s world right now. So it’s a good time to do a little roundup of what different things are going on in his life. Buffett is one of the best musicians in the world, let’s start with that. His tour has a little break at this point, but he has concerts coming up towards the middle of November. So it’s like he’s taking a little vacation from his otherwise fairly constant touring. He also has the football thing going on, in which he will be a major player in the Miami Dolphins’ continuing success and the marketability of the team. Hopefully they will get more ticket sales from Parrotheads and so on throughout the year. He might also be working on a new album; there have been rumors to that effect recently, so we’ll have to keep our eyes open!

Buffett’s Football

Jimmy Buffett is really popular in the NFL right now. It’s going to be a very interesting year for them, and especially now that the Dolphins have dropped a bit in the rankings. They lost their main QB just a couple weeks back and it’s going to be tough for them to make up for that loss, despite the fact that they pulled in a QB quickly. Their stadium remains full of celebrities and a lot of your fellow Parrotheads. You will have to make sure that this place remains full if you want him to keep up his high level sponsorship and ownership of the team. Whether you are a football fan or not, or if you like the Dolphins or not, you should support the team so that Jimmy keeps coming back for more!

Miami Marine

Miami Marine Stadium is one of the most well-known stadiums in Florida and Jimmy Buffett has put his clout behind the bid to keep it open, at least for a little while. The band is known for having played there and it’s too bad for them that it might get taken down. There are a lot of people who are in favor of it, but it’s going to be interesting to see if Buffett will be able to get some interest in keeping it up for the next little while. Maybe he would play another concert there or have a series of concerts. Who knows? But if anyone can keep something like this going, he can!
