Jimmy Buffett’s Gulf Shores Benefit was labeled a great success after some minor rescheduling delayed the charity show a few weeks. Jimmy with his band of Coral Reefers put on a terrific live show featuring famed songwriter Jesse Winchester and New Orleans music legend Allen Toussaint. The concert was broadcast across the United States on CMT to spread awareness about the Gulf region’s plight Over 35,000 fans turned up for the free concert on Sunday night, which provided Gulf Shores, AL a much needed influx our weekend tourism. BP gave the state of Alabama $15 million in promotional money, and it is expected that we may see more free concerts to attract visitors. Jimmy ran through usual staple of big hits for the massive audience, but it was his tearful performance of “When the Coast is Clear” that brought down the house. Check out the video here.

There is plenty of things happening in Margaritville this week with the opening of the brand new Margaritaville Beach Hotel. I’m sure there will be a nice group of Parrotheads spending their Fourth of July at the newly built resort in Pensacola, Florida. Wish I was sipping on something at the hotel’s Land Shark Bar right now. Unfortunately, Jimmy Buffett’s Gulf Coast Charity show featuring Zac Brown and Kenny Chesney due to Hurricane Alex. The show will now take place on July 11th and will still be broadcast on CMT. Jimmy apologized for the rescheduling quipping, “It’s hard to reason with Hurricane season”. Bubba did perform for some fans at his sister’s restaurant Lulu’s Sunset Grill with a surprise performance. Reports indicate that about 100 or so fans showed up for the free show.

Jimmy Buffett (with the help of his friends the Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, and Allen Toussaint) has announced that he will play a free concert to benefit the gulf coast oil spill. Jimmy has been monitoring the situation on the coast closely in recent weeks, meeting with politicians, inspecting the coastline, and urging people to not shy away from visiting the region on vacation this summer. The beach-side free concert will take place in Gulf Shores, Alabama on July 1st. CMT will broadcast the show live at 8:00 PM ET for fans viewing pleasure. There should be a lot more details coming forth soon about the benefit concert, but I for one am really excited for the show. Fans will be able to make donations to aid the Gulf Coast while watching their favorite singers perform live.

After the terrible earthquake struck the country of Haiti Jimmy Buffett was deeply moved to help the Caribbean nation any way he could. Days after the tragedy Buffett posted a video on his website urging all Parrotheads to donate to help the cause. Buffett went a step further earlier this week flying his seaplane to Haiti to deliver tents to the homeless in Port-au-Prince. U.S. embassy security gave Jimmy a tour of the devastated city’s downtown. Buffett has been to Haiti before in 1994 and it had to be hard to city in its current state compared to his last visit. Jimmy told the press of his visit declaring “Haiti, is something worth saving to me.”. As many as 1.2 million Haitians lost their homes because of the earthquake and are at high risk of catching Malaria living in such conditions. If you have anything to spare please make a donation to the Haiti Relief Fund.

Jimmy Buffett just keeps giving people smiles and help! Even indirectly. Jimmy Buffett’s tribute band, the Baha Brothers will be playing a concert in Massachusetts which will give you the chance to hear his music, played in a thoughtful way to his honor. And you can attend wearing Hawaiian shirts and flip flops, if you want, and everyone will have fun and enjoy the show. And it will help you relax and get that stress out! And the best part of all: the concert will benefit schools in the Braintree, MA area! And if you’re not only into Buffett music, you can also hear the Baha Brothers play songs from the 50s all the way to the present day. It will be a great mix and you’ll have a great time if you can get there. More details on the concert here.

Before the game began, Florida was a little uneasy about their upcoming matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks. “What’s the point?” murmered many of the players. “It’s not like Jimmy Buf- OH MY GOD, IT’S JI…JI…JIMMY BUFFETT,” they stammered as a cool, calm and collected Jimmy Buffett entered the Florida Gators locker room. As the locker room went silent, Buffett pulled out a red Dry-Erase marker and drew up 5 plays for the Gators team (offense and defense collectively). “This is all you need,” he said before he put his Ray-Bans back on and exited. End result: Gators 56, Gamecocks 6.

The world’s richest entertainer Jimmy Buffet has asked his dedicated fans “The Parrotheads” to give a new aspect to their famous Pre-concert tailgate parties. Jimmy has given the option to make money for charity work of their choice. A group of fans of Buffet are sponsoring a charity program called Frisco Feeding Frenzy. They also have plans to donate money to the National Breast Cancer foundation. The Ozarka plant had donated 1,000 bottles of water to be sold to the Jimmy fans attending the tailgate party on 26th April and the income generated will be given to a man from Winnsboro, who is a victim of lung cancer, for his medical expenses.

Bill Ansel, the parrotheads official tailgate planner announced that all the proceeds of the party will be given to Dana from Winnsboro. Bill has made the tailgating one of the highlights of the Jimmy concerts. The 2007 Tailgate party was attended by 675 people and $2,300 was generated. A major portion was given to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society also received some help from the Parrotheads in the name of Michael French, the Jimmy fan, who was diagnosed with leukemia at the tender age of 8years.

Buffett’s Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant closes in Michigan

Jimmy Buffett, a musician, hotelier and above all a charitable person, had given license to Outback Steakhouse to run a chain of restaurants under the name “Cheeseburger in Paradise” in August 2002. The concept of these restaurants was to provide its customers with maximum comfort and relaxation away from the hassles of their day to day activities. The Cheeseburger in Paradise had island like surroundings with colorful cocktails and live music and to add to it, Western style décor in a bid to woo customers into a party like atmosphere.

Jimmy Buffet sold his holdings in these restaurants to Outback Steakhouse Company in the year 2005 and now gets 4.5% as royalty fees from the total earnings from the restaurant business. After the closure of the first Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina, there has been an announcement for the closure of Michigan Cheeseburger in Paradise as well. The reason cited for this closure is that the parent company is going for a new strategic plan and these restaurants no longer suit the new plan of the OSI restaurant partners. The company has said that the closures are a business decision that the company had to take at a particular moment and that they will serve their loyal customers at some point in the future.
