A Jimmy Buffett Fan

Impersonation

[ Comments Off ] Posted on 03.23.09 under Music, Tom Watt, jimmy buffett

There is a Jimmy Buffett impersonator out there. Tom Watt is one of a small group of Buffett mimics out in the world these days and he’s doing a nice job! Apparently, even those who are real fans wont actually notice much difference between them. Obviously, it’s not as good as the real guy. But he sings a good amount of the best songs and it’s a lot of fun. He will also encourage you to relax and enjoy the show. I don’t know if Jimmy has approved of this guy, but I think he’d be happy with anyone getting his music and style out there. He certainly gets royalties too, so that’s not too bad for him either.

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reef band landed for the first time in two years at the DTE Energy Music Center in Clarkston and the Michigan fans were thrilled to have their star idol perform in front of them last Tuesday night.  The highlight of the entire gala evening was when Greg Taylor joined with the band to exhibit his music skills on solo songs like “The City” and the inevitable “A Pirate Looks at Forty”. Jimmy Buffett was at his usual self all through the night and this veteran singer and songwriter will enthrall audiences in any part of the woods with his sublime onstage presence. All the people who bought tickets for the concert got their value for every penny they spent.

Jazzing it up with Jimmy

It has been known that it NEVER rains on a Jimmy Buffett concert or showcase. And that statement was proven true last Saturday at Jazzfest. Earlier on Saturday morning, it rained cats and dogs but hours later, a little while before Buffett was slated to appear before a full house at Jazzfest, the dark clouds cleared.

One of the highlights at Jazzfest includes Buffett belting out a memorable acoustic version of “Come Monday”. The crowd was also suitably amused when Buffett spotted a member of the audience wearing a shirt that says “Helping Rebuild New Orleans One Margarita At A Time”, and the jovial crooner instantly offered to swap his own flip flops for that shirt.

Jimmy Buffet is a many-talented person and it is no wonder that Buffett wrote the sound-track for, co-produced and acted in the 2006 film Hoot, which has become a critical and commercial blunder. Jimmy also wrote and performed the theme song to the 1993 CBS television series. Apart from that, Buffet is known to have made several cameo appearances, including in Repo Man, Hook, Cobb, Congo, and From the Earth to the Moon.
