A Jimmy Buffett Fan

Hotel!

Jimmy Buffett is just about to release his new album. Buffet Hotel is going to be an interesting new album. There is a broad range of reaction to the album at this point. As I mentioned last week, the album was made in the way that many of his older ones, with a little wine and some late night sessions. The only difference seems to be that they weren’t necessarily together, Buffett and his compatriots. Instead, they would send edits of the songs back and forth through the internet, because Buffett was out on his current tour. Meanwhile, some other critics who don’t like him so much are saying that the music sounds the same as all the others. From the little clips that I’ve found here and there, I can tell you it sounds a lot like the older albums, but there’s something more to it. A little bite or something.

More Details about the New Album

Jimmy Buffett was interviewed about his new album this week and it was decidedly an interesting set of statements. He has been at the top of his game for much more than a year, so people are curious to know what the new CD is about. He said that he didn’t make it specifically so that he could end up on the radio. Instead, he told us that he wanted to make music for Parrotheads at the concerts. Yes the music is supposed to sound good, but it doesn’t have that overly produced sound that you hear with pop/rock music these days. He writes it for the live sound, the relaxed feeling. He doesn’t make it primarily for heavy radio play and obviously, he’s not going to be heard in most dance clubs, though some of his songs might fit a little bit. It’s fun, though, so let’s enjoy the CD as soon as it comes out. Maybe you can even tell me what your favorite song is while you’re there.

Back to the Roots

Jimmy has acknowledged this week that he was able to find his roots again with Buffet Hotel, and says that he was more engaged and had more fun with it than he’s had with any of his CDs for the last few years. It had, in a sense, become more of a corporate process for him, since he had his people and a routine down to get it done. This happens sometimes when a performer becomes famous; they just get into a rut. This time, he did what he calls “red wine lyrics” which were able to make him more witty and more creative than when he’s, perhaps, wearing a suit trying to pitch ideas to his colleagues. No, just get back to the basics, the kind and style of writing that got you where you are! Well Done, Jimmy. I can’t wait to hear the new album!

New Young Friend

One of Jimmy’s newest discoveries is a man named Ilo, who is one of the biggest new African performers in the world right now. His style is kind of similar to Jimmy’s, with a little bit of a different twinge to it. He has started making an impressive splash in the country lately, with the promotion of people like the founder of MTV and Buffett. This is a guy that is going to go far. Have any of you checked out his music yet? If you haven’t, make sure that you get to your iTunes or whatever to enjoy his pretty tunes. You haven’t heard a singer like this guy before, but you don’t have to go so far as Jimmy did to hear him. He happened to be in Cape Verde and decided to check out the local music scene. And that’s where he hear Ilo the first time and really enjoyed his style! Now they’re all going to make it easier for you to hear it!

With Zac Brown

Jimmy Buffett teamed up with a new up-and-coming star, Zac Brown and his band, in a new episode of CMT Crossroads. Now don’t go charging over to YouTube just yet. It hasn’t been released. In fact, the audience was invitation-only and the show will be broadcast sometime next year. The Zac Brown Band, although they have been in the business for nearly a decade, have finally been making inroads with the country crowd in the last year or two, recording great songs and performing in more high profile locations. For them to appear on tv, so soon after their #1 single “Chicken Fried” and a CMA Award nomination for best artist of the year, this band is fast becoming the hottest new thing (besides Taylor Swift, of course). Hopefully, their appearance with Buffett will help them out!

How about the Charlottesville Show?

Jimmy Buffett was in Charlottesville just the other day and it was definitely positively seen. I am reading the article written by someone who was there. The first thing that surprised them was the kind of tail-gaters that were out in the parking lot before the show. You normally have young goofballs downing lots of alcohol before a show. But in this case, you had a lot of people in Hawaiian shirts and drinking margaritas. They might even be hoola dancing or wearing lays. The music was great like always, from the fun-loving songs, to the mildly subversive ones. This show is a fun one, even though it is near the end of the Summerzcool tour, it gave everyone in the room a feel of summer freedom for a few hours. That’s the magic of Jimmy Buffett that will make you happy for everything in the world.

How about those Fans

The Jimmy Buffett fans, called Parrotheads, are some of the best music fans in the world. We really enjoy seeing them at each performance that he gives. He is a musician that can bring in a wide variety of people. But they aren’t there just for the music. Especially nowadays, the group of fans is here to get that feeling of escapism that they desperately need. The feeling of being down by the beach and hearing comfortable music is perhaps the best thing in the world. When times get tough and the weather gets cold at the same time, Buffett will bring you into the warmth and you can enjoy a whole concert full of great music.

Special Guitar

[ Comments Off ] Posted on 11.13.09 under Uncategorized

A television station in Florida is asking how much a particular guitar is worth, because it was autographed by Jimmy Buffett, Willie Nelson and James Taylor. Some people think that it’s worth a lot with signatures and others say that it’s no more than a few hundred dollars worth. Why are they asking around? It’s more a game or a small competition than anything else. They apparently revealed the actual value a couple days ago, but it hasn’t been publicized anywhere official. No matter, it’s really cool to see that there is such a guitar out there and how much notice it garners whenever someone hears about it.

In South Carolina

[ Comments Off ] Posted on 11.03.09 under Uncategorized

There is some speculation at the moment that Jimmy Buffett could revive the struggling tourism industry of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It has been having a lot of trouble in the last few years due to the economic downturn. But they have started getting better than they were before. Hopefully he’ll be able to bring a lot more people to the state during the proposed weeklong music festival next spring. The idea is that it might be a motorbike event with music in addition. The mayor of the town attributes a certain amount of the drop in visitors to the crackdown on motorcycle events in recent years. Maybe this will convince the city to change back to the way they were before.

Track List

[ Comments Off ] Posted on 10.27.09 under Uncategorized

They just released the track list for the Buffett Hotel CD that I mentioned last time around. It’s going to be a fantastic album, as proven by this list. A lot of these songs are taken from the set list of his latest tour shows and also includes several of his more political songs. It’s going to be very interesting to see how these songs sound when they are recorded. You know, when you hear something live, you can hear it arranged for the particular occasion, depending on who else is playing and the kind of event. But for an album, they can choose a lot more about how they arrange it. It’s great songs as usual, but we’ll have to wait to see what will be different about it.
