I just can’t stop reading and thinking about Buffet Hotel CD that was just released earlier in December. There’s just something different about it compared to many of the other Buffett pieces. The CD has been getting good reviews. An Arizona reviewer states that it’s a good soundtrack for anyone who wants to enjoy a warm drink on the porch. Some of us will obviously have to wait a few more months before we can get out on the porch for real, but you’ll get to hear the music already. I think the mastery of this album is the addition of the African folk rhythms and some of the new instrumentation that Jimmy has added for this project. I thought it was just going to be a basic collection of tunes from his tours of the last year or two. But no! It came out as an inventive and new style of music that is interesting but close enough to the normal as to avoid being jarring. This is such fun, so hopefully we’ll be able to hear more of this kind of music in the future projects that he’s planning out!

Will Jimmy get behind Kinky Friedman’s bid for Texas agriculture chief? That’s the question on every Parrothead’s lips today as the campaign heats up. While Friedman hopes for political office, it seems as though Buffett is trying to stay out of it, although many people seem to remember how excited he was about the campaign of Obama. Maybe we will get to see one of this year’s hottest musicians finally back a small political movement. It’s going to be an interesting year otherwise for Buffett, as he takes his new tunes out on the road for the first time. His new album has been greeted happily by many long-time fans. Hopefully we’ll get to sing along in the concert halls and stadiums all spring, summer and autumn long!

We almost missed it! Well, I almost missed it! Jimmy had his birthday earlier this week and I didn’t say a single word about it. I know that Jimmy is pretty relaxed about things, so I don’t think he’ll be too angry about me missing it. Besides, I was too excited about his new album. In fact, I think it’s more important that he gave me the best birthday present ever, although my birthday’s only in March. The thing is, he gave me a present for his birthday, it would seem. It’s the new album, which I’m really digging. Whether you enjoy the great beachy music that he writes or the great new kinds of African rhythms, it’s a great album. So this is why I think Jimmy will forgive me: I’m sitting here enjoying the newest CD and having a great time. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it!

The various interviews conducted after the release of the new album have brought out an interesting storyline. One of his biggest inspirations for this album was a trip to Africa sometime ago. He says that he was in Africa and just heard these amazing sounds and decided to put it into his repertoire. He even put in some traditional instruments for the album, though it’s not overpowering. Maybe he’ll add some more of those in next time around. For now, though, we can definitely enjoy this great fusion of music, which combines the great Buffett rock with some great African beats and just a dash of something extra. A lot of people have told me that this aspect of the album is one of their favorite parts, though some of those people would even like more of it!

When we heard the newest album, Buffet Hotel, we thought it might sound like all the rest. But I was personally pleasantly surprised to find that it sounded different and interesting. They had of course said that it would sound different, but that’s what musicians always say. They have to convince us that it’s worth buying. In this case, though, it actually is full of great music. If you haven’t seen this album yet, then you will want to hear it. The lyrics are somehow very different from the other ones and it’s going to surprise you, I’m certain. Even my best buddy who’s a HUGE fan was impressed at how a performer like Jimmy Buffett, who you think you’d figured out a long time ago, found a way to make something so new and fresh sounding.

When Jimmy Buffett decides to go to the recording studio, we know that he has something to say. It doesn’t count as art or music if he doesn’t have anything in particular to communicate to people. But this guy, a rock music reviewer, thinks that Buffett isn’t being fully honest with us. He says that it used to be real, with Buffett as a strong performer actually singing about something that was real. But instead, he thinks that just because the guy is successful with several different franchises doing well, thus, the idea of a beachcomber, a surfer, is completely fake. Can you believe the nerve of the guy? I mean, the music feels so authentic and the lyrics clearly show that this guy feels what he’s singing about! Just enjoy the music and don’t worry about all those nay-sayers. They just don’t get it for some reason.

The new album is out and people really are enjoying it. The album is his first offering since the end of last year and it contains a lot of the music as you like to hear it. This Christmas, get your friends and family a copy of this album. When the weather gets cold, as it did this week in much of the country, you will want to imagine you’re on a beach sipping a nice cool drink to cool off. In reality, you might be sitting in front of the fireplace, drinking a hot chocolate during Christmas, but there’s nothing wrong with that. The new album will help to melt all the cares away that come up during this holiday season and you’ll need to relax. That’s why you should have the album and give it to everyone, get them back and relaxed!

Jimmy Buffett is just about to release his new album. Buffet Hotel is going to be an interesting new album. There is a broad range of reaction to the album at this point. As I mentioned last week, the album was made in the way that many of his older ones, with a little wine and some late night sessions. The only difference seems to be that they weren’t necessarily together, Buffett and his compatriots. Instead, they would send edits of the songs back and forth through the internet, because Buffett was out on his current tour. Meanwhile, some other critics who don’t like him so much are saying that the music sounds the same as all the others. From the little clips that I’ve found here and there, I can tell you it sounds a lot like the older albums, but there’s something more to it. A little bite or something.

Jimmy Buffett was interviewed about his new album this week and it was decidedly an interesting set of statements. He has been at the top of his game for much more than a year, so people are curious to know what the new CD is about. He said that he didn’t make it specifically so that he could end up on the radio. Instead, he told us that he wanted to make music for Parrotheads at the concerts. Yes the music is supposed to sound good, but it doesn’t have that overly produced sound that you hear with pop/rock music these days. He writes it for the live sound, the relaxed feeling. He doesn’t make it primarily for heavy radio play and obviously, he’s not going to be heard in most dance clubs, though some of his songs might fit a little bit. It’s fun, though, so let’s enjoy the CD as soon as it comes out. Maybe you can even tell me what your favorite song is while you’re there.

Jimmy has acknowledged this week that he was able to find his roots again with Buffet Hotel, and says that he was more engaged and had more fun with it than he’s had with any of his CDs for the last few years. It had, in a sense, become more of a corporate process for him, since he had his people and a routine down to get it done. This happens sometimes when a performer becomes famous; they just get into a rut. This time, he did what he calls “red wine lyrics” which were able to make him more witty and more creative than when he’s, perhaps, wearing a suit trying to pitch ideas to his colleagues. No, just get back to the basics, the kind and style of writing that got you where you are! Well Done, Jimmy. I can’t wait to hear the new album!
